ABOUT
From when I was a young girl of 11 years old I was interested in babies which fuelled my path to pursue a career in Nursing, Midwifery and Family and Child Health Nursing.
Between the years of 1985 and 1993 I married and had 5 babies of my own which gave me an intimate understanding and insight into the complexities of family life.
In 2004, with the desire to support other families I co-founded Settle Petal - Private Parenting and Child Health.
Over the years, Settle Petal has evolved to include clinic visits, home visiting and parenting sessions on the Sunshine Coast. At these visits I discuss issues that parents may have concerning 0 -5 year olds. From these visits parents gain insight and encouragement to support them in their decisions in an ever changing world of raising children.
I am also an active member of the ‘Child Health & Infant Nutrition Advisory Group’ for Wyeth Australia Pty Ltd which meets to provide expert advice on current infant and child health and nutrition issues across Australia and New Zealand.
Settle Petal is supported by the internet to reach parents further away than the Sunshine Coast.
This is done through my website http://www.settlepetal.com which includes a selection of downloadable eBooks that cover the information shared at my parenting sessions. It also has links to relevant and helpful child health related sites and a ‘Putting them to Sleep” audio CD with information on sleep and settling.
Private Parenting and Child Health
Many families find parenting very isolating but with the development of the internet this isolation can be broken. Parents can feel alone in their role of parenting, even if they live in a city. Sharing the load of difficult situations with other parents who may have experienced something similar can be a huge support. Parents have a genuine empathy for other parents and are usually only to willing to share what things have worked for them.
The internet is a great medium for bringing people with similar interests together, therefore I have created this blog as well as a FACEBOOK profile where parents are free to visit and know that they are not alone. As people share their own experiences and ideas you will feel supported in your challenges and receive valuable input from others both professionally and personally.
