My 17mth old often wakes up after his day sleep quite hysterical. He will sometimes cry for up to 30mins after his sleep. It doesn’t seem to matter what I do I cannot sooth him. He has been doing this for a couple of months and it is very distressing for both of us. Does anyone else have this problem or any ideas about why?

Kerri,
You are not alone with this behaviour from a toddler. In my experiences it can be they either have not slept long enough or they are a slow to warm up personality and it will just take time and like you said nothing you do will help. Some adults are like this of a morning. Another thought can be that they have not had a substantial lunch prior to going to sleep. Jan

We have just started the transition of moving our 22 month old from a cot to a bed and now he sleeps in a cot with the side off but a bed rail attached to prevent him from falling out of bed. The problem is now instead of settling for his day sleep he gets out of bed and walks into the lounge. We now have installed a gate to keep him in his room.. any tips? I have a newborn 2 week old so I don’t have many “spare hands”.
